Why did you choose Annapolis?
Both of us having grown up
doing a lot of boating in Southern Maryland, and still maintaining that
love for the water, we knew we wanted to do something that incorporated
that. We initially looked at beaches as possible venues, and even some
of wedding/banquets halls on the water, but nothing felt quite "us" -
until we found Watermark and the Catherine Marie - a large yacht you can
hold a ceremony and reception on. The boats can leave out of Annapolis
or the Baltimore Inner Harbor, and with us having a lot of family in
Anne Arundel and Calvert, and having lived close to or in Annapolis for
the past 3 years, we knew it was the perfect location.
Where in Annapolis?
Watermark's Catherine Marie vessel. The boat picked up guests at City
Dock in downtown Annapolis. For the ceremony the boat went out in the
Severn just beyond the bridge, in front of a beautiful white sprawling
mansion surrounded by trees.
Describe the setting?
was absolutely perfect for us. The ceremony could not have been more
beautiful, with all of our guests and us on the top deck of the
Catherine Marie, with the sun just starting to set. There was a nice
breeze so it was not near as hot as you'd expect for an August wedding,
and the view from any angle was gorgeous.
What was the most memorable part?
down the aisle on the top deck of the boat and seeing my future-husband
was the best part of the day. The setting completed the moment. I do
not think it could have been any more memorable or romantic than it was
on the Catherine Marie.
Any tips for couples planning a wedding?
settle for a venue you don't absolutely love. We were close to settling
on a venue that we liked enough, but weren't absolutely in love with.
I'm so glad we decided to wait because we ended up finding the venue of
our dreams. Also, we had Captain Marty Meyer officiate our wedding. We
cannot say enough wonderful things about him. To start, we had no plans
for our rehearsal other than having the boat reserved and having told
our bridal party to be there. He stepped up right away and led us
through the way the ceremony would run...he kept us on pace and gave us
great ideas for those decisions about the ceremony we were still yet to
make. The day of the wedding he was such a joy as well...all of our
guests loved him. He would lend his captain's hat out for photos (he
dressed in his captain's white uniform) and ended up being a favorite
for including in our guests' photos himself. He hit it off with
everyone, especially our fellow boat/water-loving friends. We didn't
know him before the ceremony, but we'll certainly stay in touch with
him! We also used Shining Entertainment and Harvey as our DJ. He kept
things running on schedule but also made sure my husband and I were
happy with how everything was going. The music was exactly as we had
requested and he kept everyone dancing. Main Ingredient was our
caterer...food was delicious and staff was very professional. They made
sure to take extra care of the bridal party as well. Finally, our room
block was at the O'Callaghan hotel (we also had a brunch for guests
there the next morning) and our rehearsal dinner at Carrol's Creek. Both were exceptional and I highly recommend them.
Would you recommend Annapolis?
There are so many options for venues and vendors for every part of your wedding. But if you're a lover of the water and also like the historic vibe Annapolis offers, the setting couldn't be any better. It also makes a great spot for guests coming from out of town...our out of town guests were so excited to have a chance to see downtown Annapolis.
